Dining Table and Light Fixture

In the film Irma Vep, a group of filmmakers gathers around a narrow table, eating, drinking, smoking, and laughing in a chaotic communion. Inspired by this cinematographic dining experience, Paul Fehlau designed and built this dining room table. The table seats six people with three on each side and is fitted to the dimensions of his dining area. When seated there you feel like you are on top of each other. There is no room for manners at this table only the enjoyment of important things, those being food and friends.

The table measures 28″ wide by 70″ long and 30″ high. Impeccably made from beautifully selected pieces of maple, the table has no screws, but was assembled with a router and biscuit joiner. The light fixture centered above the table is from a single slab of maple and continues the theme of simplicity, intimacy, and dispelling facades by keeping everything exposed, including cables, bulbs, and attachments.
